The EU WeMED_Natour project has launched the call for schools, inviting schools that are interested in participating in the immersive ECO-Smart Tourism Packages pilot trips designed for children between 6 and 16 years old. It is an unique opportunity for students to engage in hands-on activities linked to their curriculum with a specific focus on marine and coastal preservation.
The EU WeMED_Natour project, which focuses on the West Mediterranean region, promoted environmental awareness and sustainable practices, particularly in tourism activities for the school market. Thus, recognizing the importance and the sensibility of primary and secondary education students towards fostering a sense of environmental responsibility, the project is designing these pilot trips to provide an enriching and enjoyable learning experience for young people.
Schools in Italy, Spain, Portugal and Mauritania have the opportunity to apply to participate in the pilot trips. The project consortium aims to select schools among those who applied which profile matches with the requirements of the project and who are willing to join all the activities planned before, during and after the pilot trips.
During these immersive trips, the students will have the chance to explore the rich marine and coastal ecosystems. With guidance from local experts, the young students will engage in hands-on activities that are linked to their school curriculum and that also go beyond. This will allow them to experience the natural and cultural heritage and also reflect on the role of tourism and their own role and responsibilities as tourists. Taking all of this into account, the children and teenagers will get valuable knowledge and also instil a sense of responsibility and commitment to preserving their environment and acquiring responsible tourism practices.
The EU WeMED_Natour project truly understands the significance of developing a genuine connection between young students and nature. This is why the pilot trips that will be carried out in different countries will offer the students a unique opportunity to witness firsthand the beauty and fragility of the marine and coastal biodiversity, highlighting the urgent need to apply conservation efforts and practices on the different territories visited. Through visits, activities and engaging discussions the young students will develop a deeper understanding of the relevance of protecting these delicate and important ecosystems.
The call for schools is now open! Educational institutions* in Italy, Spain, Portugal and Mauritania are encouraged to apply for this remarkable experience. Embarking on these immersive and experiential learning and recreational trips, schools and their young students will embark on a transformative journey, creating long-lasting memories and gaining knowledge that will contribute to their personal and professional development.
*Please check the guideline for application to check the age group in each country the pilot trips is looking for.
